Teaching/Presenting

M. Gerard Fromm

In addition to consulting, my current activities also include teaching and presenting on clinical and applied psychoanalytic topics. I’ve taught a number of seminars over the years, both at Riggs and at various psychoanalytic institutes across the country. Topics include:

  • Winnicott and the Middle School of British Psychoanalysis
  • The Work of Erik Erikson
  • Transference and Countertransference
  • Trauma and its Transmission
  • The Clinical Use of Dreams
  • Group and Organizational Dynamics
  • A Psychoanalytic Perspective on Psychosis

The work from these seminars and various presentations found its way into five books in recent years, one on the applied psychoanalytic work of the Erikson Institute, especially as it relates to trauma, one bringing together my clinical papers and three edited volumes based on Erikson Institute conferences and the work of the International Dialogue Initiative. The first and last are available at www.firingthemind.com and the others are available at www.karnacbooks.com.

  • Traveling through Time: How Trauma Plays Itself out in Families, Organizations and Society
  • Taking the Transference, Reaching toward Dreams: Clinical Studies in the Intermediate Area
  • Lost in Transmission: Studies of Trauma across Generations
  • A Spirit That Impels: Play, Creativity and Psychoanalysis
  • We Don’t Speak of Fear: Large-Group Identity, Societal Conflict and Collective Trauma (with Vamik Volkan and Regine Scholz)
